What is Alopecia?

Alopecia is a condition which causes partial or complete hair loss and can be temporary or permanent. Alopecia totalis is the medical term for extreme hair loss on both, scalp and face and alopecia areata is partial and patchy hair loss. No-one really knows the cause of alopecia, but one thing we know for sure is that many of those who suffer with these conditions lack confidence and have low self-esteem. Hair loss or baldness (technically known as alopecia is a loss of hair from the head or body. Baldness can refer to general hair loss or androgenic alopecia, (male pattern baldness).

Some types of baldness can be caused by alopecia areata, which is an autoimmune disorder. Alopecia universalis, involves the loss of all hair from the head and the body in its entirety.

How do Hair Simulation treatments work?

Thanks to up-to-date innovation within the micropigmentation industry and the latest developments, we can carry out procedures that mimic facial hair stubble and the much sported, shaved head look. This is purely an
illusionary procedure and in order for it to be most effective in its appearance, one must be prepared to shave their head. The result is directly on the scalp and is not 3-dimentional, therefore it is not suitable if you have baldness within a long hair style. We can add the illusion of hair density where one is thinning, by adding tiny implants of colour pigments which complement the existing hair, but it does not replace physical, keratinous hair.

The procedure is carried out over two to three sessions depending on the severity of the condition, to add the illusion of hair density. For your safety we only use single-use disposable needle cartridges, along with the latest in digital technology.

What will I expect in my consultation and treatment?

A thorough consultation will be carried out that we may fully understand your expectations of the treatment and your suitability. In some circumstances we may require written and signed clearance from your GP, or a medical professional if you are under the care of one. Depending on your sensitivity, we may numb the area prior to treatment using a topical anaesthetic cream for 30-40.

The pigments are implanted into the upper layers of the skin in order to avoid blowouts, but this isn’t always possible, however they can happen due to the delicate nature of the anatomy on the scalp. This procedure on
the scalp requires the correct stretch and minimal depth. Pricing is very individual and can be priced as a treatment plan or for each session. After the treatment the scalp will appear slightly sore, red and darker than expected. This will lighten by approximately 40-50% over the 4-week healing period. It’s important to strictly follow the aftercare advice for maximum pigment retention. A second session will be scheduled two to
four weeks ahead. Since we are not going over the exact location as the previous session these can be placed closer together in order to complete the treatment in a lesser timeframe.
