What is microneedling?
Microneedling is a revolutionary skin treatment that improves many skin conditions such as softening of lines and wrinkles, reduces the appearance of acne scarring, improves overall skin tone and firmness, reduces the appearance of stretch marks and it also makes way for better delivery of skin topicals to improve the efficacy of nutrients as it greatly improves absorption. Micro needling is a natural skin rejuvenation method that fills and softens wrinkles and scars. Microneedling combined with topicals such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin protocols further enhance the efficacy of the treatment. The roller does not burn your skin or strip it like chemical peels therefore it is much safer. The roller does not inject, it only permits deeper infusion of topical applications such as peptides, antioxidants, hyaluronic acid and hair growth formulas, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the product to produce better results.
How does microneedling work?
Microneedling is carried out using a roller type device with 200 or more tiny micro needles around it that are thinner than the human hair. The needles come in various lengths, some which are sold for home use and others which are only for professional medical use. When the needles are rolled across the skin, hundreds of microscopic ‘pin pricks’ are created causing strategic wounding and injury. As your body begins the healing process new collagen formation is activated. Over the following weeks a noticeable improvement can be seen resulting in younger and healthier looking skin. To improve the results of each treatment, special skin protocols are used during the microneedling process. Once the tiny micro channels are created by the needles, the roller itself has a unique way of mechanically pushing the topical serums under the skin. These special formulations are developed to assist with skin rejuvenation, acne scarring, hair stimulation, stretch marks, burns injury.
What will I expect in my consultation and treatment?
During your consultation we will check your suitability for treatment. Microneedling can only be carried out on intact healthy skin with no present wounds or lesions or recent scarring. If you are currently under the care of a medical professional, we may require written consent by them to authorise your treatment. Prior to treatment the area will be numbed using a topical anaesthetic cream for 30-40.
After the treatment, the area will appear red and quite tender. This can last up to 48 hours. It is advisable to have the treatment when you can take a day or two off work and stay home to relax. No strenuous exercise for 48 hours and it’s important to keep the area clean and exposed to allow faster healing. You will be provided with the necessary aftercare and it’s important to keep out of direct sunlight as the treatment increases photosensitivity.
An SPF of 50 must be used daily for the following four weeks after the treatment sessions and thereafter a minimum of factor 30 must be used to preserve your skin against UV damage.
