Anti-wrinkle injections or muscle relaxing injections

Anti-wrinkle injections, more commonly known as Botox are the most popular non-surgical treatments for treating lines and wrinkles to the face, mainly on the forehead and around the eyes. Botulinum Toxin Type A. can be used to treat all wrinkles associated with underlying muscle movement in the upper part of the face (and some areas around the lips, chin and neck).

Anti-wrinkle injections can be combined with other treatments such as dermal fillers or mesotherapy to treat the overall facial rejuvenation and to add lost volume.

How do anti-wrinkle injections work?

Minute doses of Botulinum Toxin are injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates the wrinkle. This blocks the nerve impulses from stimulating the muscle and as a result, the muscle relaxes. As the muscle stops contracting, the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the skin softens. After the treatment, the wrinkles relax along with the muscles while surrounding untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion. This allows normal facial expressions to remain unaffected.

The benefits of anti-wrinkle injections are visible within 5-12 days after the treatment and will last for 3-4 months, giving the face a smoother, more rested appearance. The effect usually persists for about 3-4 months before muscle activity is gradually resolved. It is recommended that you come back for more treatments at the sight of muscle re-activation.

During your consultation we will discuss your medical history and assess your suitability for anti-wrinkle injections. If you are suitable, a thorough consultation will be carried out by our prescriber and an appointment will be scheduled for the treatment.

In order that you are not making any rushed decisions, your appointment will be scheduled in the near future for you to fully process the information regarding your treatment.

Please note: As with all injectables there is a risk of bruising, therefore we recommend not to have any injectable treatments 14 days prior to important engagements. You will need to avoid vigorous exercise for 48 hours and alcohol for 24 hours. You must not touch the treated area for 24 hours. Care must be taken when cleansing and washing the face.
